Eye level with a Sandhill

 

One of my favorite things is to isolate and photograph the Sandhills as they take off… this time on solid ice.

In New Mexico, it is difficult to get close to these birds (unlike their Florida compadres).  Using my less than clean vehicle, I was able to park fairly close and get some nice portraits.  Here are a couple of my favorites.
